SomaGiri is built to be a quiet, private space for meditation and breathwork. We collect as little as possible, and we never sell your information. This policy explains what we do and don't collect, and how your data is handled.
1. Who we are
SomaGiri (“SomaGiri”, “we”, “us”) is a meditation, somatic and breathwork app created by Gary Els of the SomaGiri Journey Centre, South Africa. You can reach us at support@somagiri.com.
2. The short version
- You do not need to create an account to use the app at launch.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
- We do not collect your Apple Health data — it stays on your device.
- Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details.
3. Information we collect
Information you choose to provide
If you write notes or journal entries, or save practices and preferences, that content is stored on your device. If you contact us by email, we receive the message and email address you send from so we can reply.
Recommendation requests
When you choose how you feel and ask the app for matched meditations, your selection is sent to our recommendation service hosted on Cloudflare in order to return suitable practices. These requests are processed to serve your request and are not tied to your identity or used to build an advertising profile. We do not require a name, email, or account to make them.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location, or browsing activity.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or third-party trackers.
- We do not collect the content of your Apple Health record.
4. Apple Health (Mindful Minutes)
If you grant permission, SomaGiri can write Mindful Minutes to Apple Health when you complete a session, so your practice appears alongside the rest of your wellbeing data. This information is written into Apple's Health store on your device and governed by Apple's privacy protections. We do not read, collect, transmit, or store your Health data on our servers. You can turn this off at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health, or within the Health app.
5. Subscriptions and payments
SomaGiri offers subscriptions through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. All purchases, renewals, and billing are processed by Apple. We receive confirmation that a subscription is active so we can unlock content, but we never receive or store your payment card details. Apple's handling of payment data is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
6. How we use information
- To provide and operate the app and return meditation recommendations.
- To confirm and maintain your subscription entitlement.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
- To diagnose and fix problems and keep the service secure.
7. Data retention
Content you create (notes, preferences, saved practices) remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Recommendation requests are processed transiently and are not retained in a form that identifies you. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you and meet our legal obligations.
8. Children's privacy
SomaGiri is rated for a general audience and is not directed at young children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app's spoken guidance is intended for older users, parents should review whether it is suitable for their child. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the infrastructure providers needed to run the app (such as Apple for payments and Cloudflare for hosting the recommendation service), or where required by law.
10. Your choices and rights
You can stop all Apple Health writing in iOS Settings, manage or cancel your subscription in the App Store, and delete locally stored content by removing the app. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal data we hold; contact us and we will help.
11. Security
We use reputable infrastructure and reasonable technical measures to protect information in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
